FAQ

(Frequently Asked Questions, or rather just some general information about this site)

Who is doing all this?
The site's maintainer is Deg, the comics are created by Deg and Kyle with inspiration from a variety of sources. Look at the Cast page for more info, and look at the copyright notices at the bottom of the page.

How?
The first comics were done in pencil, then inked with pen and scanned with a generic HP scanner. Some slight image resizing and cropping is all that's needed.
The site was originally programmed in PHP by ripping apart Walrus with ConTEXT. It's now completely my own creation, with lots of MySQL and PHP usage. I wouldn't say it's well-coded, but it works for my purposes (it still does need work and could be made more efficient). The XHTML and CSS layout is a heavily modified creation by MochaMan, and I'm always striving to get pages to validate for proper XHTML 'n stuff. It's close, if not perfect - standards are for making the page look the same in standards-compliant browsers, and hardly anyone uses those. Right now, the site looks a lot better in Firefox, Opera, Mozilla, and Konqueror than it does in Internet Explorer.

What is the comic creation process?
Comics are just drawn straight up in pencil by Kyle, but Deg ususally sketches ideas for a while. If the good pencil drafts are dark, it can be scanned like that..however it usually needs to be redrawn in pen. We may switch to flash vector drawings or photoshop with nice AA, but the pen style is nice and original for now.
Once they're on paper, Deg scans them with a desktop scanner, crops the image in MS Paint, and resizes them from 1700px wide to 750px wide in Irfanview. Then they're uploaded, and you get happy :-).

What about all them there fabulous images?
All navigation and banners have been created in MS Paint. Yep. Two-colour graphics, ahoy! Our graphical skills continue to amaze the masses.

When are new comics put online?
We decided on a schedule of one or two comics uploaded per week. We try to adhere as best we can, even if some comics are a little late...

Why?
Kyle drew a few comics in spring 2005, and we wanted to share some humour around. If you don't like the humour, you're free to not visit all you want. Besides, our ad revenue is earning us enough coke for a LAN party about once every 5 years. For two people, maybe (cliclicclicclick kplzthx).
We've continued this comic tradition into 2006 and hope to continue it for as long as we can!

Why do the drawings suck?
Actually, the ones on paper by Kyle are fairly decent. The ones by Deg are crap ;P
Generally, when they're in pencil they look alright. But then the scanner makes those lines too faint, so we ink them in pen..and it ends up looking bad. We would use Photoshop or Flash, but neither of us have a tablet - too much of an investment to be worth it. Drawing with a mouse is teh suckage, by the way.. especially heads. Hand-drawn heads bulge in unsightly ways, and using circle tools just looks wrong.

Coke or Pepsi?
Coke, you fool!

Halo 1 or Halo 2?
Deg prefers 1 because that's all he owns (plays on laptop and doesn't own any consoles, the loser). He has experienced the awesomeness of both at LAN parties. Who knows what Kyle and others enjoy...they mainly aren't the ones updating the site :-). It seems to sway between the two.
Look, arguing over the game versions is lame and petty bullshit. Play what you like and stop bitching about it.

Is that Kyle guy really Kyle "Yourself" Smith?
No. Yourself is some random GM geek (apparently awesome), and this Kyle is someone completely different. He'd like to appear so, anyways.
